ethan (the “Operator”) handles the personal information of Chimmelier members safely in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act of Korea. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and when we delete it.
1. Information we process
We only collect what is necessary. We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, real names or dates of birth.
| Purpose | Information | How we get it |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-up and login | Your Naver or Kakao member ID and nickname | Received from Naver or Kakao within the scope you agreed to when logging in |
| Staying logged in | Login session data (encrypted token values; issue, use and expiry times) | Created automatically when you log in |
| Using the Service | Profile photo (optional), reviews, photos, community posts and comments, records of likes, favorites, votes and reports, notifications | Entered by you |
| Access logs | IP address, access time, requested address, browser information | Recorded automatically by the web server |
| Usage statistics | Pages visited and time spent, referrer, device / operating system / browser type, approximate location (country, city), a random visitor ID stored in a cookie | Collected automatically by Google Analytics (Google Tag Manager) — not linked to your account |
Extra information in uploaded photos, such as location (EXIF), is removed when they are saved. Profile photos are resized to a 640 px square and are shown to others next to your name on reviews, community posts and comments.
2. Why we process it
- To identify members, keep you logged in and apply usage rules such as daily posting limits
- To display the posts you write and to notify you of changes to menus you like or brands you favorite
- To handle reports, prevent abuse, respond to outages and keep the Service secure
- To improve the Service using usage statistics such as which pages are used most (not for advertising)
3. Retention and deletion
- Member information and posts: until you delete your account. Deleting your account on “My account” erases everything without delay.
- Community posts and comments you deleted: kept visible to the Operator only for handling reports and disputes, and deleted when you delete your account.
- Login session data: no longer used once you log out or it expires.
- Web server access logs: deleted automatically after about 14 days.
- Uploaded images not used in a post: deleted automatically after one day.
- Usage statistics: deleted by Google after the retention period set in Google Analytics (14 months).
Electronic files are deleted in a way that cannot be recovered.
4. Sharing with third parties
We do not share members’ personal information with anyone, except when investigative agencies or others request it through procedures required by law.
5. Service providers
We use the following provider to run the Service.
| Provider | Task |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (Seoul region) | Running servers and the database (where all Service data is stored) |
Naver and Kakao only provide the login method; we do not entrust information to them.
For the menu translations on the foreign-language (English and Japanese) versions we use the Claude API of Anthropic, PBC (USA). We only send the names and descriptions of brands, categories and menus that each brand publishes on its official website — never members’ personal information or posts (reviews, community posts, comments). This is therefore not an entrustment or overseas transfer of personal information.
6. Usage statistics and overseas transfer
We use Google Analytics for usage statistics. In the process, the “usage statistics” items in section 1 are transferred abroad and processed as below. Your account information (member ID, nickname) and posts are not sent.
| Recipient | Google LLC (USA) · contact: support.google.com/policies |
|---|---|
| Countries | The United States and other countries where Google operates data centers |
| When and how | Sent directly over the network by your browser each time you view a page |
| Items and purpose | The usage statistics items in section 1 — analyzing usage and improving the Service |
| Retention | 14 months (Google Analytics data retention setting) |
If you do not want this, block cookies in your browser or use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Blocking them does not limit your use of the Service.
8. Your rights and how to exercise them
You can view, correct or delete your personal information, ask us to stop processing it, or delete your account at any time.
- You can delete your own reviews, posts, comments and profile photo directly on screen.
- You can delete your account right away on “My account”; all your information and posts are then erased.
- For other requests, write to the privacy officer below and we will reply with the result within 10 days.
- To change your nickname, change it on Naver or Kakao and log in again.
9. Security measures
- All communication is encrypted with HTTPS.
- We store only hashes of login tokens, not the original values, and login cookies are sent so scripts cannot read them (httpOnly).
- The database cannot be accessed directly from outside, and the admin console can only be entered with a separate admin account.
- Uploaded files are checked to be real images and re-saved to remove hidden information.
10. Children under 14
The Service does not accept sign-ups from children under 14.
